1,000 New Jobs Due to Landfill Project
This is one of those situations where you don’t know whether to cheer or cry. Yes, there are going to be about 1,000 jobs within the next 10 years in the Long Beach area due to a new landfill, which is fantastic; all of those workers will be able to support their families and make a living. But it’s a landfill, which serves to remind us just how much we’re wasting our planet away—and instead of searching for better, more sustainable options, we’re working as hard as we can to make Wall-E a reality. Plus, there’s the whole fact that working at a landfill can’t be healthy for the new workers, either.
Best Buy Lays Off Workers in Indiana
It’s always upsetting to hear about layoffs of large companies, though the sorrow is sort of ambivalent in my case; I prefer to support local, small businesses and would rather have them around than the big conglomerates, but the bigger operations do tend to employ more people, hence supporting more families. In Indiana, Best Buy is laying off a whopping 300 people due to the closing of their CD and DVD distribution center. The plant will be closed by March 2012, and the first of these layoffs will be given this summer. My heart goes out to these hundreds of people; I hope you all find good work soon.

He’s also, of course, performed his share of music. I remember receiving the album as a gift for Christmas that year and being less than pleased with it, dismissing the lyrics as a bit misogynist—let alone not something a woman would sing. Then I realized that Babyface wrote them. Albert Von Tilzer
